Tips for Successful Plein Air Painting During a "Paint Out!"

Betty Pierce Liles, a successful plein air painter, will share tips for successful outdoor painting during a Brown Bag luncheon presentation on Wednesday, September 12, 2019 at the Hopkinsville Art Gallery, 108 E. 6th Street, Hopkinsville. She has won numerous awards participating in invitation-only "Paint Out" competitions throughout the country, including Kentucky, Colorado, Tennessee, Florida and Louisiana. As a part of her presentation she will explain the equipment needed from the simplest to the most complete and how to choose a subject and how to do the initial preparation sketches before painting.

Betty studied commercial and fine art at Austin Peay State University and graduate work in studio painting at Murray State University. She is a retired college professor having taught for over 30 years. In 2009, she received a grant from the Kentucky Arts Council to further her art education and has since studied at the Arts Students League in New York City.

This program is designed to help anyone that wants to learn about plein air painting. It is open to the public and designed to prepare anyone that might be interested in entering the first "Hoptown Paint Out" scheduled for October 6, 2018 in downtown Hopkinsville.
