Derby Arts Festival
What was it all about? (It's history now!)
In an effort to focus on the arts community in Hopkinsville, the Hopkinsville Art Guild, in collaboration with the City of Hopkinsville, the Pennyrile Academy of Fine Arts, Christian County Extension 4-H program, area schools and the Public Library hosted the Derby Arts Festival each May, starting in 2009. Unfortunately, lack of adequate funding has forced a cessation of this event.
The 5th and last Derby Arts Festival was held on May 5, 2012, from 10:00 - 2:00. We estimate the crowd to have been around 250 people during the entire day. See photos below.
We all know that a thriving arts community is essential to a community where people enjoy living and rearing their family. There has been a “Creation Station” for children to experience several free art activities so they can develop skills in water coloring and origami, learn about the “old master” painters, and create chalk art projects. And there were free performances.
